The Bangladesh embassy in Moscow celebrated the 40th Anniversary of Victory Day of the people’s Republic of Bangladesh.
The celebration was held on December 18,2011.
The celebration marks the end of a Liberation War, which lasted for nine months. On December 16, 1971, General AAK Niazi, the Commanding Officer of the Pakistani Armed Forces located in East Pakistan, surrendered his forces to Lt Gen Jagjit Singh Aurora, the Allied forces Commander.
Bangladeshis in Moscow joined the celebrations, which were held at the Bangladesh house of the embassy of Bangladesh , in paying tribute to the three million martyrs for their sacrifice, which resulted in the independence of the nation of Bangladesh.
Earlier in the morning of 16th December, a flag hoisting ceremony was conducted to celebrate the Victory Day, where the Bangladesh National Flag was hoisted at the Embassy premises by the ambassador of Bangladesh to Russia, Mr S. M Siful Haque.

During the yesterday’s evening cultural programme,a film ‘Muktir Gaan’( Song of Freedom) was screened.It’s a documentary film which explores the impact of cultural identity on the liberation war, where music and song provided all source of inspiration to the freedom fighters and a spiritual bond for the whole emerging nation. Directors Catherine and Tareque Masud used original footage by American film-maker Lear Levin.
At the Bangladesh embassy, messages from the President of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Mr Md Zillur Rahman; the Prime Minister of Bangladesh Government, Ms Sheikh Hasina; and Foreign Minister of Bangladesh, Dr Dipu Moni, were read out.
The event was concluded by a colorful cultural show.
